For our first vacation four years ago, Wouter and I took the car and drove all the way to Italy. We rented an apartment in Montaione, right in the middle of Tuscany, so we could take our car and drive to every city and little village in Tuscany under 2 hours, perfect! Be prepared for a long photo report about the places we’ve been to!
Montaione
After a long ride all the way to Tuscany, Italy, we arrived in Montaione, where we stayed in a cute apartment at La Collinella. Montaione has beautiful views, as you can see 🙂

We went to a local winery for a tour and some tasting.
Pisa
Our first trip was Pisa, where we took very touristic photos with the famous leaning tower of Pisa and the rest of the beautiful buildings.
Lucca
From Pisa we traveled to Lucca, it’s a short ride and perfect to combine the two on one day! Lucca is a typical little Italian town with city walls where you can ride a bike on, fun! You’ll also find the old amphitheater, Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, where you now find cute little shops and café’s.
Siena
The next city we went to was Siena. We walked around town, we climed the stairs in Torre del Mangia and had delicious icecream. Siena is one of the most beautiful cities of Tuscany, with it’s lovely square Piazza del Campo and the impressive Duomo.

Monteriggioni
When we left Siena we had some time left, so we drove around until we ended up in Monteriggioni, a cool little medieval walled city where we had the best pasta with truffle ever!
Florence
Next stop, Florence! Florence (or Firenze) was on the top of our ‘to-go’ list. But first I wanted to finish Dan Brown’s latest book Inferno, because it’s about Florence. I finished the book in 3 days and it was fun to recognize some buildings, statues etc. I recommend to read the book before you go here.

San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town, known as the Town of Fine Towers and is famous for it’s medieval architecture. I think this was our favorite town of all the ones we’ve visited in Tuscany. Because it’s atmosphere and ancient feeling. A small town, but we’ve spent almost a whole day there. AND it has the best icecream in the world 😉

Volterra
Our last stop before we went to Rome was Volterra. Another medieval town with an old amphitheater and plenty to see.
